This Privacy Policy explains how Best Halloween Houses of La Crosse handles information when you browse the guide, use its map, or contact the organizer. It covers this website, not websites or map apps you open from it.

Information you provide

If you email the organizer, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. House suggestions and correction requests may include a display address, your connection to the property, and your message. The online submission form is currently unavailable in this preview; use the contact information below instead. Please do not send sensitive personal information or information you do not have permission to share.

Public house listings

The guide publishes display photographs, street addresses, descriptions, and available visiting information. Sample listings and sample business locations are fictional and are labeled accordingly. Contact the organizer if a listing contains an error or you want your property or photograph reviewed for removal. Private correspondence and contact email addresses are not part of public listings.

Technical information and hosting

Cloudflare hosts the website and stores its content and uploaded images. Delivering and securing the website can involve processing your IP address, browser information, requested pages, timestamps, and diagnostic or security logs. These services may process information outside your state or country.

Maps and your location

Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap. Loading the map sends requests to that service, including your IP address and the map tiles being requested. Use My Location asks your browser for permission before using your device location to center the map. Our application does not save those coordinates to its database, but the resulting map tile requests can reveal the area being viewed to the map provider. You can decline or revoke location permission in your browser. Directions links open a separate mapping service, whose privacy practices apply there.

Browser storage and analytics

The guide uses session storage on your device to remember your selected area and position in the list, maintain sponsor rotation, and avoid repeating the introductory animation. You can clear this through your browser settings. This preview does not currently load Google Analytics or advertising pixels. We will update this policy when those practices change.

Why information is used and shared

Information is used to operate the guide, respond to messages, review suggested displays, correct or remove listings, maintain security, and troubleshoot problems. Hosting and other service providers process information as needed to deliver those services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or reasonably necessary to address fraud, security incidents, or threats to others. We do not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not provide private messages or contact details to sponsors for their independent marketing. The planned advertising practices and their possible legal classification are explained below.

Advertising and measurement: current status

As of the date above, this preview has no active Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, Google Ads tag, Pinterest Tag, or server-side advertising conversion integration. We have not enabled customer-list audience uploads. The sponsor rotation on this site is not based on your activity on other websites. Running an advertisement on a platform is separate from installing that platform’s tracking on this website.

Planned advertising and retargeting

We plan to promote the guide through Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google, and Pinterest. If their measurement and advertising tools are enabled, they may use cookies, pixels, device identifiers, and server-to-server events to measure campaign results, recognize returning visitors, limit repeated ads, and show relevant ads. Retargeting means showing an ad to someone who previously visited or interacted with the guide. Ads may appear on those platforms and other participating websites or apps. The following describes planned tools, not a statement that they are currently active.

Events could include page views, house views, map use, guide sharing, sponsor-offer views, and clicks on sponsor links. Advertising data could include IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, page URLs, referring pages, campaign or click identifiers, approximate location inferred from an IP address, and cookie or device identifiers. Ad partners may associate these events with accounts or information they already hold. Exact data and providers will be identified when the tools are introduced.

Meta, Google, and Pinterest

Meta tools may include the Meta Pixel, Conversions API, and Custom Audiences. These can support Facebook and Instagram ad measurement, audience creation, and delivery. Read the Meta Privacy Policy and manage choices through Meta Ad Preferences.

Google tools may include Google Analytics, Google Ads conversion tracking, remarketing, and enhanced conversions. Google and other vendors can use cookies or device identifiers to serve ads based on previous visits to this or other websites. Pinterest tools may include the Pinterest Tag, Conversions API, and audience features. These can share activity with Pinterest for measurement and online behavioral advertising. Contact matching, audiences, and server-side events

Some advertising services can match an email address or phone number to a platform account, commonly after hashing the value. Hashing does not make identifiable data anonymous. We have not enabled this matching. If introduced, it will require a specific disclosure of the source and use of the contact data, appropriate permission or another valid basis, and the applicable platform controls. Contacting us or suggesting a house does not by itself enroll you in a marketing list or authorize a customer-list upload. Information supplied for a correction or removal request is not used to build advertising audiences.

Server-side conversion reporting is another way to send events to a provider; it does not bypass your applicable consent or opt-out choices. We will not intentionally send precise device location obtained for map use, private submission text, sensitive information, or information known to belong to children to advertising platforms.

Advertising choices and consent

Where required by law or platform rules, optional tracking will remain off until the required consent is obtained. Before these tools go live, the site will provide the relevant notice and working controls to reject or withdraw optional tracking and exercise applicable targeted-advertising choices. This policy is not itself a cookie-consent control, and accepting the Terms of Service is not consent to optional tracking. Those on-site advertising controls are not currently needed to disable the listed integrations because they are not active.

Browser settings can block or clear cookies and site storage; device settings may restrict advertising identifiers. Platform settings and industry opt-outs provide additional choices, but may apply only to that browser, device, account, or participating providers. Clearing cookies may clear saved choices. Opting out of personalized advertising does not necessarily stop all advertising or essential security processing. A browser setting alone may not stop server-side reporting, so any future on-site advertising choice will need to govern that reporting too.

Sale, sharing, and browser privacy signals

Some laws classify disclosure of identifiers or browsing activity to advertising partners as a sale or sharing of personal information, or targeted advertising, even without a monetary payment. We will evaluate and disclose that classification before enabling the planned tools. We do not currently conduct that advertising-related sale or sharing. If applicable, an accessible opt-out method and support for legally recognized universal opt-out signals, such as Global Privacy Control, will be provided before the processing starts. We do not currently change essential site behavior in response to the older Do Not Track header.

Privacy rights and international visitors

Depending on your location and the laws applicable to the organizer, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or sharing; appeal a denied request; or complain to a privacy authority. These rights can have exceptions and verification requirements. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable rights. An authorized agent may act where the law permits. Contact details must be finalized before public launch so requests can be received.

The guide is operated for a local United States audience. Where other privacy laws apply, processing must have an appropriate legal basis, such as providing a requested service, consent for optional tracking, legitimate interests where permitted, or a legal obligation. Providers may process data in other countries; applicable transfer safeguards must be in place where required. Naming a planned advertising feature here does not make it available or lawful in every jurisdiction.

Marketing messages and promotions

This preview does not enroll visitors in email or SMS marketing. Any future signup will explain the messages and provide the applicable consent and unsubscribe choices. A giveaway or contest, if offered, will have its own rules and entry notice identifying the organizer, sponsor, eligibility, prize, entry period, and use of entrant information. Giveaway participation will not automatically authorize unrelated marketing or publication of a winner’s photograph.

Sponsor links and sharing

Sponsor offers and links lead to independent businesses. Those businesses handle their own transactions and information collection. Share buttons use your device’s sharing tools or copy a link; the guide does not receive your sharing contacts. Review the privacy policies of services you choose to use.

Retention and your choices

Published listings may remain available in the guide or in past-season archives. Correspondence and other records are kept as needed to handle the request, operate the guide, resolve issues, and meet applicable obligations. Contact the organizer to request access, correction, or deletion of information you supplied, or review of a published listing. We may need to verify your connection to the information before acting, and some records may need to be retained for legal or security reasons.

Children

The guide is intended for adults planning local outings. Children under 13 should not submit personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact the organizer so it can be reviewed and removed as appropriate.
